On behalf of the Bemidji Jaycees, I would like to thank everyone for the substantial support and numerous suggestions we have received regarding our water carnival. Please know that we are working hard to secure a location for this summer as well as a permanent home for the event. A lot of research goes into the selection of a site from utility needs to zoning requirements and of course, the opinion of nearby business owners. Finding a location to fill every requirement is not an easy task. If you would like to be involved in the process, we are always looking for new members with fresh ideas; please consider joining our organization. You can begin this process by contacting me or by visiting our website at bemidjijaycees.com.
I also want to ask for the fair treatment of all downtown business owners. There were legitimate concerns regarding the 4th street location and we appreciate the business owners who spoke up and let us know that our event would create a hardship. Boycotting these businesses does not help anyone; it certainly does not help the mission of the Bemidji Jaycees. Even though we are no longer pursuing the 4th street location for 2017, we have not written it off as an option for future years. We are actively working on solutions to the potential problems that were presented to us. An announcement will be made if we are able to secure a new location for the 73rd Annual Bemidji Jaycees Water Carnival including the Grand Parade, Red White and Boom Fireworks show and Family Day events.
